Getting the best out of creativity
I was privileged to be part of the opening ceremony for the Portfolio Innovation Center's £3m extension programme. Based at the University in Northampton, the centre will house a further 40/60 creative businesses, ranging from ceramics and fashion to gaming and web design.
I have mentored and coached a large number of the existing tenants (pictured) over the last couple of years, and what a great crowd - talented, enthusiastic and refusing to be beaten by this damn recession!
The place is brilliantly run under the watchful eye of Wendy Nikolaides, a former TV girl, producer, rock chick and 'it' girl - sorry Wend!
Charley Boorman of motorbike, Deliverance, Emerald Forest and Excalibur fame bowled up in his leathers and did a fine job of speaking - funny, irreverent and fascinating. I got the job of painting his portrait for the marauding visitors, much to Charley's delight.
Great day, great place, great people.........WE NEED MORE PLACES LIKE THIS MR BROWN!
